Private Guide in Xi`an:
Hello,
I am Gary, from the mythical ancient land and modern rising power of China
I am a professional English tour guide with National Guide Certificate, working in a city best known as the site of the Terra Cotta Army—Xi'an, China. Three years ago, I graduated from Xi'an International Studies University, majoring in tourism and English. During college, I also studied philosphy, art and ancient Chinese culture. I like traveling as a backpacker; discovering the different culture of strange places and talking with locals is an invigorating experience for me.
The inspiration for "Yellow River Tours" comes from a wonderful motorcycle trip I took with my American friend Jesse to my parents’ home, which is an ancient rural village in northwest of Shaanxi province. That is the most ancient part of China, where once I lived, grew up, and spent my school days. I love it so much because of its ancient well-preserved culture and incredible mystique. I know this land like I know myself. Though I enjoy living in Xi’an for its growing international flavor, my hometown is very dear to my heart. When my guests visit, I have the priviledge of showing them some places that other foreigners never access. I can serve as a window into ancient China by bringing the history of these lands to life. Furthermore, I know where we can find the cheapest and most appropriate room, board, and travel arrangements. Jesse’s excitement during our journey to my hometown revealed to me what a special experience my own roots can be for foreigners to this country.
I am glad to share these opportunities with those international friends who want to know this land. What I can do for my guests is different from what a large travel agency can. I can be a private guide, translator, and teacher for my guests and lead the way to any places they might want to visit, besides the destinations I already have in mind. I want to show people what China is really like, which includes a sense of what China has been in the past and how that is shaping its present place in the world. I can give them an impressive Chinese travel experience. I am looking forward to seeing you in Xi'an...
